The
Ugnayan ng Pahinungód/ Oblation Corps is a program of the
University that institutionalizes volunteerism among UP constituents
through the rendering of free services to communities in greatest
need. It enjoins faculty, students, alumni, and employees of UP
to share their skills and talents with our less privileged countrymen.
It seeks to put flesh and blood to the term Iskolar ng Bayan.
Established
in 1994 under the administration of then UP President Emil Q.
Javier, the Ugnayan ng Pahinungód is presently existing
in most autonomous units of the University of the Philippines.
In UP Manila, it is currently under the directorship of Dr. Eric
S.M. Talens.
Among
those who have taken the rein of leadership of the volunteer program
were Prof. Fatima Alvarez-Castillo, Dr. Mario de Villa, Dr. Carmencita
Padilla, Dr. Juan Pablo Nañagas, and Dr. Froilan Inocencio.
To
date, the Ugnayan ng Pahinungód Manila has already served
communities from Aparri to Jolo benefiting more than 222,026 Filipinos
through its various volunteer programs.
