Community
Social Welfare
Aiming
to promote the interest and welfare of some marginalized sectors
of the society, the Community Social Welfare Program conducts
activities that intend to enlighten the volunteers with the realities
of life such as poverty, social injustices, unhealthy lifestyles,
etc. With these realizations at hand, volunteers will have a standard
as to what is appropriate and relevant service, founded on the
real issues of the community. Their social awareness will also
help them in providing the relevant service in whatever field
or career path they opted to take in the future.
One
of its sub-programs is the Summer Immersion Service Program
or SISP. It promotes social awareness through
community immersion. Immersion is defined as the process of living
in solidarity with the people in the community towards a better
understanding of their lives and the issues affecting them. It
is the process a person goes through in an attempt to be one with
the people or to be accepted as one of them.
On
the other hand, the Program for the Street Children
provides a venue for Pahinungód volunteers to have a significant
interaction with the street children of Manila. Street children
are minor citizens who grew up and wander in the streets or those
who do not have a shelter to live in. The program works with the
institutions in Metro Manila. The interactions of the volunteers
with the children are often through value-forming activities such
as musical theater plays, dance production, etc., to help keep
the children off the streets.
Hospice
Care aims to give assistance to terminally ill patients
of the PGH Cancer Institute (CI) by helping in the establishment
of a strong support system for the patients. This may be in the
form of companionship, relaxation activities, art therapies, etc.
