Community
Health
The
UP Manila, being the Health Science Center in the Philippines,
through this program, aims to provide direct assistance and sharing
of knowledge to help in alleviating the existing health concerns
of communities that lack medical facilities and expertise. There
are 3 active services under this program - Health Mission, Health
Training, and Emergency Room Volunteers Program.
Health
Missions, through the efforts of the volunteers, sponsors
and coordinators, bring the clinical services and expertise (medical
consultations, dental treatments, surgical procedures or any combination
of these services) of PGH medical professionals to areas outside
Metro Manila.
Simultaneous
with health missions, the office conducts health education to
the patients and trains the health workers of the barangays they
visited. Other than that, Ugnayan ng Pahinungód also conducts
health training outside the missions.
Health
Training are conducted to equip local health workers
and health educators with basic life-saving skills and knowledge
on first-aid treatment. In areas that lack doctors and health
professionals, it is crucial to train health workers because the
safety and health of the local residents are in their hands.
The
Emergency Room Volunteers Program provides assistance
to the existing manpower of the UP-PGH Emergency Room Complex.
The program is active during summer and semestral break. Volunteers
are trained on triage, vital signs, wound care and trauma care.
