On
December 17, 2005, the Pahinungód Program
for the Street Children will once again showcase the street kids’
artistic abilities and enhance their creativity through a shadow
puppetry presentation. This time headed by Prof. Arnold Esguerra,
an expert in Maranaw culture. Through the shadow play, Prof. Esguerra
wants the street children to appreciate the rich Filipino culture
and develop their sense of nationalism.
ANINO
Shadowplay Collective, an accomplished group that performed remarkable
shadow plays, was generous enough to extend their assistance to
the program by providing the skill. Araceli Luna-Arellano or Ms.
Tenny Arellano, Administrative Director of ANINO, trained the
volunteers every Saturday since September. In turn, the volunteers
are now training the street children to move the shadow puppets
for their upcoming performance.
The
volunteers who signed up for the workshop are enjoying every single
moment of it not only for the skills learned but for their chance
to share something to the street children. As Princes, a volunteer,
said, "Napaka-gaan talaga ng pakiramdam lalo na kapag
hindi lamang ang ating mga sarili ang ating binibigyan ng pansin
kundi pati na rin ang mga ibang tao na mas nangangailanga ng ating
tulong."
Right
now, they are busy with the rehearsals. They are also preparing
for the UP Lantern Parade, wherein the street children will parade
in costumes for the shadow play. But of course, you will not only
see their shadows during the parade but their full colorful appearance
in flesh!
